Work Programme

  • What is vulnerable employment?
  • What is the extent of vulnerable employment in the UK and has it risen?
  • What conditions allow vulnerable employment to exist?
  • What problems are caused by vulnerable employment?
  • What is being done to reduce vulnerable employment and address the problems that it causes?

CoVE has been structured around seven full Commission meetings between early 2007 and 2008, when the final report was published.

In addition to these meetings, a series of four ‘field trips’ across the UK were arranged over the Spring and Summer 2007 for Commissioners to explore vulnerable employment and understand what work is being done around the issue ‘on the ground’. A timetable of the Commission’s activities is shown below:

February 2007: Full Commission meeting
May 2007: Full Commission meeting
  1st fieldtrip to North West
  Commence research commissioning
  Commence public consultation
June 2007: 2nd fieldtrip to South East
  3rd fieldtrip to Wales
July 2007: 4th fieldtrip to South West
September 2007: Publish interim update on work to date
  Conclude public consultation
October 2007: 3rd full Commission meeting
  Conclude research
early 2008: 4th and 5th full Commission meetings
mid 2008: Publish final report
